County Councillor Cait Hutchings - "Many thanks to the people of Penryn for their support."

Truro and Falmouth Liberal Democrats stormed to victory in the Penryn Division County Council by-election on February 8th.

Lib Dem candidate Cait Hutchings was elected at the head of an all female list of five candidates. The Conservatives trailed in third place and Labour were beaten into a humiliating fourth.

Cait said, " I would like to thank the people of Penryn for putting their faith in me. I will do my utmost to repay their support and kindness."

Julia Goldsworthy MP said. "Cait Hutchings will make a fantastic County Councillor. I have complete faith in her ability to deliver a great job for the people of Penryn.

"With Labour limping in fourth place in what had been one of their strongest wards, it is clear that the next General Election will be a two horse race between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. Labour can no longer win here."

The full result was as follows:

Cait Hutchings (Lib Dem) 456

Mary May (Ind) 360

Gill Grant (Con) 207

Charlotte MacKenzie (Lab) 94

Georgina Fryer (Ind) 63
